Praying For Your Child to Love God's Word
A couple of weeks ago I posted about how I'm venturing through the book, "Praying The Scriptures For Your Children". I'm just loving it and finding so much I need to be praying for that I'm not - especially for my children.
I love how my oldest is really interested in prayer, the bible, and God's love. I must remember to continue to be praying for him to love God's word more and more everyday.
The next chapter I read through was "Praying For Your Child to Love God's Word".
Psalm 119:11 says, "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you."
"A love of Scripture can begin at an early age. We (as mom's) love the snuggle time we get when we "read-aloud" to our children and then tucking them into bed. What better book to read than a colorfully illustrated children's bible. These bedtime rituals are only the beginning. Psalm 119:105 likens God's word-- his laws, his commandments, his promises--to a lamp that sheds light on our path. Perhaps nowhere is this guiding light more necessary (or more welcome!) than when our children have ourgrown our laps, when peer relationships, academic challenges, and other pressure points can generate a cloud of darkness or confusion in their lives."
I really have tears streaming from my eyes. We only have a short amount of time to instill the word in our children. To tell them of God's great love. To teach them right from wrong. And how scary it is when we dont take full advantage of teaching them EVERYDAY. What is more important than this? Absolutely Nothing!
Our prayers are the first line of defense against these clouds. Its obvious that Satan wants to destroy our families and he is always on the lookout for ways to sow seeds of destruction.
The book shares 3 Prayer Principles for Praying For Your Child to Love God's Word:
- Praying for your children to know, love, and use God's word is one of the most effective ways to pray for their spiritual protection.
- When you ask God to hide his word in your child's heart, you are asking him for the blessings of wisdom, protection, and freedom.
- Enlisting the support of a praying friend multiplies the power of your prayers and invites God into your prayer circle.
This chapter shares some prayers we can use to pray for our children:
Heavenly Father.....
"Let _____________________ keep your words and store up your commands so that he will live. Cause him to guard your teachings as the apple of his eye, and let them be written on the tablet of his heart."
"Show __________________that your way is perfect and your word is flawless. Be her sheild as she takes refuge in you."
"Show ____________________that all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness."

Multitudes On Monday: #243 - 266
We live in the Nashville area. You know, the south. We are southerners. But why is it we have gotten more snow than parts of the northeast has? So random, but fun as well. This past week we had about 6 inches of snow, and for those who live in Tennessee, that is alot of snow at one time. But it makes for an awesome photo prop! Here are a few from our week.
So, in all of this white stuff, even though I'm ready for spring (like, so bad!) I'm reminded I have lots to be thankful for.
January 25th:
243...watching my 5 year old do his school work on the dry erase board
244...my husband - love him!
245...the smell of brownies baking in the oven
January 26th:
246...6 inches of snow
247...my Tervis Tumblr
248...the ability to have running water - so many in other parts of the world dont
249...being warm in our heated home
January 27th:
250...a random kiss from my husband
251..."I love you's" from my boys
252...woodwick candles
253...a morning of getting my hair done
January 28th:
256. Learning so much from the #savvyblogging team
January 29th:
258...warm socks on a cold winter day
259...naps
January 30th:
260...An amazing church family.
261...A random call from my sisters just to say "hi"
262...Our Tommee Tippee products. We LOVE these things!
January 31st:
263...carwashes - goodness, it needed it after all the salt thats been on the roads
264...forgiveness
266. The sound of my boys wrestling upstairs in the playroom. So cute.

Meet Isaac:
Isaac lives with his father and his mother. He is responsible for carrying water, gardening and helping in the kitchen. His father is sometimes employed as a laborer and his mother is sometimes employed as a laborer.
Isaac is not presently attending school. Soccer, playing with cars and singing are his favorite activities. He also attends church activities regularly.
_________________________________________
How did we meet Isaac? We haven't yet. But we're praying and loving him from our home in Tennessee
in hopes to one day meet him. You see, Isaac lives in Uganda. And it is Isaac that my
4 year old son chose to sponsor through Compassion International.
This past Saturday, we were talking about giving to others to our 4 year old. We asked what he wanted for his birthday that is coming up next week. He really couldn't decide on anything. It was then that we asked if he would rather give the money we would spend on a gift for him to a little boy who didn't have as much as he did. My husband asked our son how many toys he thought he had, and he replied with "26". Which for my 4 year old is alot (of course he has way more than 26 but we thought it was a cute, and random number for him to come up with). So we agreed that 26 toys was ALOT! And we have been blessed with so much - a house, a couple of cars, good health, food, toys, clothes, etc. He then looked at us and said "Lets give some of that to a boy who needs it more than we do". Before jumping on that, we wanted to explain that he could make the decision about if he wanted to receive a toy from us for his birthday or give to someone else - someone around his age and from where he has visited before, Uganda. (We went there for Christmas in 2007 to see my sister and her family while they were living there). We kept repeating that it was entirely up to him and whatever decision he made, it was a great one. And thats the truth - if he chose a toy, we would've been happy to give him a birthday present.
About 10 minutes later, he said "I'd like to help another boy instead of getting just another toy for myself." We double and triple checked as we wanted to make sure that he made this decision on his own. He said "Yes, because I know if I didnt have much, there would be another little boy out there who would help me. And I want to help him."
They get it. They are only preschoolers and they get it. We have found that children will give because they want to. I know alot of times parents force their children to give their allowance to different causes. While that isn't bad to have "the 10% rule", - it's also good to give your child choices. We as parents sometimes don't give our children enough credit about understanding the real meaning of giving.
I was one of those that was taught that you give 10% to church, 10% to savings, 10% for spending, etc. And I found later one that when I gave that offering, it wasn't heart felt. It wasn't for the right reasons. It was because I was "taught" that way and not given the choice to give as much as I'd like or as little as I'd like. So, in that area, we're raising our children differently. There is an awesome book for all the Dad's out there that my husband read about a year ago - one that we definitely have found helpful in the area of giving and saving, and that is First National Bank of Dad. We highly recommend this book for any parent to read. It has some awesome advice & tips on money and teaching your children to save well and give from their heart.
This will be our second child to sponsor through Compassion and I just can't say enough good things about this association. It will definitely change you and your family - who knew $38.00 a month could do just that. We are anxious to really "Meet Isaac" one day.

Gratitude Community: #182- 186
I've been really enjoying my journey through 1,000 Gifts with Ann Voskamp. Have you checked out her blog? Oh my, get ready to have a tissue and a lot of time of sitting down. She is amazing! Her writing is beautiful! I'd love to challenge you to try this as well. We all have so much to be thankful for but yet alot of times we find it hard to sit still, and listen. Listen to him. And then thank him for ALL he has given us - which is far more than we ever could need!

183. The ability to have prescriptions and good insurance when my babies are sick.

Let's face it, we all let him down, but he continues to forgive us and love us more.
What a lesson we all should learn and put into practice more.
~Jesus said, "Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14

Gratitude Community: #177-181
Christmas is over and a new year has begun. What do you have to be thankful for? EVERYTHING! God has given us much more than we ever could imagine. God has given us life. So, take a few moments and drop to your knees. Raise your hands and love on the one who first loved you. Give him thanks. What am I thankful for on January 3rd, 2011?
177. Baby Jesus. Yes, someone so amazing that we remember at Christmas but sometimes tend to forget after December 25th. The baby is the reason we are here. And for that, I'm thankful.
178. A warm cup of hot chocolate while sitting by the fire with my husband.
179. Playing the piano. Something that has been so relaxing for me since I was 7 years old.
180. My boys hugging and telling eachother goodnight before they are tucked in bed every evening.
181. Clean babies in footed pajamas.

What Are You Giving For Christmas?
So many are asking "What are you getting or wanting for Christmas?" Why don't we ask "What are you giving for Christmas?" The world seems to want, want, want and not put an emphasis on giving. This Christmas season, we are really trying hard to teach our children (especially our 4, almost 5 year old) about the real meaning of Christmas and how important it is to give to others and not just receive.
Are you looking for some last minute gifts {to give}? Here are a few gifts that would really make a difference to someone. There are tons out there but these are just a few of my favorites...
