Interview: Gina
I'm excited to be able to introduce you to a new friend of mine. Gina and I have gotten to know eachother over the past couple of months. She has such a great heart!
F Facebook URL: No facebook for us.
Name: Gina Kleinworth
Blog Name & URL: Chic Homeschool Mama www.chichomeschoolmama.com
2. Twitter Username: @firefam5
3.
3 words that describe you? Just 3?? Loyal, opinionated, Introvert (I know- they are all so different and don’t really go together. Rest assured- I do not have multiple personalities)
When did you first start blogging? 2007
What was your reason to start blogging? I started our family blog to help keep everyone in the loop- since we don’t have family close by. I dabbled with a couple other blogs but soon became too busy with work to keep up with them all. A few months back I had to rename our family blog due to some people that had found it and were trying to use the content against us. (small town politics) So while I was at it – I started a couple others as well and they have all been steadily growing. It has been quite a fun experience. Now I focus on my mom blog to connect with others that share the same passions. Those that would like to follow our family blog as well can contact me for the link.
What is your “niche” for your blog? Since I homeschool & work from home- there are many things going on around here all the time. I would say the “niche” would be the daily joys & sometimes the troubles of managing it all. Just Life. I also have a serious addiction to all things fashion & not a sole around that really understands. So when I come across things I love- I need to share them with someone- so I will usually blog about them.
Do you have a phrase or catchy saying for your blog? Not sure how “catchy” it is but my sub-title is Fashion Loving- Homeschooling – WAHM. It’s pretty much my life in a nutshell- a very small nutshell.
When do you find time to blog? When work has me slammed- I will usually write it all out while I am waiting for the kids during dance class or bowling league & cut and paste it in when I have a few minutes later on. Right now, I have a bit more free time on my hands- so I blog as frequently as the mood strikes me. Especially since we don’t work on a traditional school year, I tend to have a lot more flexibility in my days than I had grown accustomed to for so long. I love to start the kids in January and finish up around October. We still get in enough classroom days in the year but we can take the hectic holiday months off so we can focus on family. Besides- it’s much too hot here in the summers- so doing school then gives us an excuse to stay in the air conditioning.
Tell us about your family? My husband and I have been together for 14 years. He is the Deputy Fire Chief for the county and that keeps him pretty busy. My son is 12 & a HUGE NASCAR fan. He loves math &science & makes school easy for me. My older daughter will be 10 in 2 weeks. She loves to read & is a bit more reserved than the other two. She takes after me the most. The youngest is 7. She is my show stopper. She loves being in the spotlight and is often competing with her brother for the title “family clown”. Not sure if it’s due to a change in parenting as we went through the early years with each child (or she was born this way)- but the youngest is very different from her siblings. She does not share the others thirst for knowledge- which in turn gives me the most challenge with homeschooling. I take comfort & gain support through all the wonderful homeschool blogs I follow to keep me going.
What are your hobbies? I have a magazine addiction. If I have “free” time (ha) or if I am ignoring the chores I will most likely be curled up in my chair with a magazine. We love to spend our weekends as quiet as possible. If we can- we will be watching football, creating great meals in the kitchen & spending quality family time together. I also crochet, sew & I love to bake treats. But I don’t find as much time for that as I would like. I have a huge interest in photography- so I may start pursuing that a bit more over the coming months. My husband would love it if our hobbies included camping- but I grew up in So. California. He grew up just outside of Lake Tahoe. There isn’t an outdoorsy bone in my body. I love to look at nature- but if it comes down to getting dirty or not having facilities- you can count me out. An RV is something we are working on- so we can all enjoy what we love.
What piece of advice can you give to other bloggers out there? Blog about what you are passionate about. If you are blogging just to fill for content- you are going to come across as phony. I always have a deep rooted opinion or a complete passion for the things I blog about.
What are some fun facts about you that you’d never share unless
asked? Hmmmm- let’s see. I would love more kids. I am inspired by all the moms I have connected with that are able to do all that they do. The original plan was 5- so I would love to put some of these things aside that derailed us from that plan and get back to that.
I would love to have my own make-up line. Creating things like the packaging is something I love. I truly appreciate great packaging and if a product has a great scent. I will buy them based on that alone. So I would love the opportunity to do that for a line of my own. (I originally was graphic arts major before leaving college to get married- so things like this are right up my alley)
What are your top 3 favorite blogs that you follow? My good friend & colleague Kristen has a fantastic blog http://dineanddish.net/ I have heard through the grapevine that she is actually one of the top 3 female bloggers in the nation. So that is pretty exciting. She was also invited to be on Martha Stewart radio a while back. She founded Adopt-a-Blogger, which is how I was so blessed to find Meghan athttp://www.thetuckerstaketennessee.com/ My latest find is http://yestheyareallmine.wordpress.com/ She is an inspiration to me with everything she does. So glad I found her through a Hop.
Where do you see your blog in 1 year/5 years? I would love to just still be blogging- connecting & growing in 1 year or 5 years. So much happens so fast- it’s hard to think that far in advance. Ideally I would love to be blogging more and working less- don’t we all? But that will take some changes- like sponsors to make that happen. I am really just enjoying the connections I am making & knowing that I am not alone in this journey- be it homeschool, blogging or anything else I encounter along the way. The rest is for the Good Lord to decide for me.
Anything else we need to know about you? :) I was once called “weird” because some found it unusual that I am able to homeschool, blog & work from home. Funny- when I started looking for other mom blogs- I found that not only am I not weird for doing what I do- but I now view it as odd when I meet people that don’t have a blog. There are so many out there like me- they just don’t live around me

Social Saturday: Cindy from Get Along Home
I've really enjoyed getting to know Cindy from Get Along Home. I've gotten to know her on Twitter and Facebook and through her blog and she is as sincere as they come! I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I did. Head over and check out her blog while you're at it!
Name: Cindy Dyer
Blog: Get Along Home
Twitter: @getalonghome
Facebook: http://facebook.com/getalonghome
3 Words that describe me: Random, Off-beat, Independent
When did you first start blogging?: Get Along Home is my third attempt at blogging. The first, a political blog, was back in 2004. It was really bad, and I'm thrilled that even the Wayback Machine doesn't have it in its archives. I don't agree with most of what I wrote back then! Chalk it up to youth, I guess. My current blog had its one-year bloggiversary on September 21 this year, and I promise not to delete it the way I have the others.
My reason to start blogging: Just keeping up with the Joneses! Blogs are my preferred way of getting news, advice, and entertainment, so it's just natural that I'd want one of my own. Can't let everybody else have all the fun! Really, I just love to write (when I can find the time), and blogging is the perfect medium for an attention-challenged person with no real expertise in anything.
What is the "niche" for my blog?: I guess that depends on how you look at it. I'm just kinda me. That's a pretty exclusive niche, since no one else does mequite as well as I do! So, yeah, I don't really have a niche. My posts revolve around motherhood, homeschooling, and the occasional recipe. I have lots of thoughts about other things, but somehow they don't usually make it to the blog. I also do giveaways and reviews, because I like getting free stuff. I haven't really defined my blog yet. Everybody says I need to, but I've never been very good at following instructions.
Do you have a phrase or catchy phrase for your blog?: Not really, but I find myself using the word "hillbilly" a lot.
My family! Love 'em! Jesse is a software tester, which means he finds bad code for a living. I like to joke that his job is breaking computers, and he's very good at it. I'm just Mom. The kids are just kids. David is 6, Jonah is 3, Audrey is 22 months, and Benjamin is 5 weeks old.
Hobbies: I have a secret love for video games. I say it's a secret because I haven't had time for games, so no one has actually witnessed me playing for several months now. I also love to enter sweepstakes and giveaways.
Advice for other bloggers: Run away! If you won't take that advice, I have this: consider the feelings of your readers, your loved ones, and your future self before you hit publish. The internet is forever! I once read a blog post by a lady who wanted the whole world to know she had peed on her own head. Really. Think before you click that button. Who needs to know that stuff?
Fun facts about me that I'd never share without being asked: Thanks for asking!
- I have attention deficit "disorder". The scare quotes are because I don't believe I am disordered. It's the rest of the world that's doing it wrong!
- I have a terrible brown thumb. I've killed everything I've tried to grow except a very stubborn thyme plant that has unaccountably survived for two years in a pot at the bottom of my steps.
- I'm terribly shy.
Top 3 favorite blogs: Only 3, huh? It's hard to choose! I love The Common Room for all-around bloggy goodness. Free Money Finance keeps me in the money loop, and Vox Popoli is where I go for politics, though I'm not brave enough to dive into the comments there. Some people find Vox Day arrogant. I do, too, but since his thoughts are usually very close to my own, I'm not bothered by it.
Where do you see your blog in 1 year/5 years: Gosh, is this one of those 7 Habits I'm supposed to be working on? I don't really have a game plan. My vague hope is that I'll have a few more subscribers and sell a few ads. I'm going to leave it at that. :-)
Anything else? Isn't that enough? Thanks for interviewing me!

Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad, an Interview with Shari Braendel
Cherie from Heart and Soul Reflections is sharing with us today.
As a Christian woman, do you find it difficult to find just the right clothes that flatter your coloring, your figure, your budget, and your modesty? You are not alone!
I often feel like a "fashionista failure" when I go shopping. I quickly become overwhelmed because I don't know what colors look best, what matches with what, where to find the best fitting jeans, ugh...the list goes on and on!
I was at a Hearts at Home conference as part of the staff in the fall of 2009, and I met the most wonderful woman, and she can solve ALL of our fashion problems!! I would like for you to meet Proverbs 31 Speaker and Author Shari Braendel.
Shari is a regular contributor and speaker for Proverbs 31, along with being the fashion editor for Susie Magazine. She has been involved in fashion from a young age, and can think of nothing better than teaching women of God how to be the best they can be!
I recently had the privilege of sitting down to dinner with Shari and picking her brain about everything fashion! So let's jump in:
ME: What is the most common mistake women make in their wardrobe?
SHARI: We buy only because things are on sale, and too many women wear black that shouldn't! They then end up with clothes that don't fit right and are the wrong color. Black does not just make you look thinner, but it also makes you look OLDER! It is too harsh for most complexions. It saves you time and money when you know what colors look best on you.
ME: You recommend dumping the "mom jeans" Give us a definition.
SHARI: Mom jeans are high waisted, pleated in the front, light blue and peg leg at the bottom. (says to me, "you don't have those on do you") {insert MY nervous laughter}
ME: Thankfully I think my jeans are ok!
Shari has devoted a whole chapter in her book on how to buy the right kind of jeans at the right price and even gives you the brand names that look the best on your body type! AMAZING!
ME: For women who hate to shop, do you have any encouragement?
SHARI: Yes, if you know your body type and your colors, shopping becomes much easier and you'll be happier with what you find. When you know these things, you have a plan for shopping. On my website, there is a tab called "Free Stuff" and you can download a stylesheet to help you. You should never shop on impulse, but shop on purpose. Keeping a list of essentials that you need so that when you are shopping, you know exactly what you are looking for and in what colors!
ME: How do you teach women to be confident no matter what their body shape?
SHARI: You must be ok with your body. God did not make a mistake when he made your body. He didn't make everyone the same. We aren't all petites, or a natural redhead, or 5'7". Understand that we are made in God's image, and unless we get that down deep within our heart, we won't be able to get it. Women have so many issues with their outer appearances because of what people have said to them in the past. We need to be careful how powerful our words are, especially in talking with our daughters! I hope to inspire them to new levels of confidence based on what I can teach them about fashion.
Ladies, this book is absolutely fabulous! Shari has covered every topic imaginable in this book in easy to understand language and great photos to help you. Her chapter topics include: determining your body type, finding your true colors, choosing accessories, the art of undergarments, swimwear, hair, makeup, jeans, a shopping guide, and helping your daughters dress as well!! It is all in here!!
You will not be disappointed in this book, I can promise that! Have you had enough? I didn't think so!
We're continuing our discussion about fashion over at my blog, Heart and Soul Reflections, with more information about color analysis from Shari Braendel.
Then you can stop over at Gather Inspirit to get some handy tips on packing for a conference or weekend trip!
You can read more about Shari over at her website and she posts Mondays and Wednesdays on her personal blog. Friends, she is as real as it gets. You'll absolutely love her!
My great thanks to Shari Braendel for hanging out with me! You, my dear, are a TRUE FASHIONISTA!!

So, take a few moments right now and get to know her. You won't be disappointed! Carrie is also an active part of Hip Homeschool Mom's.
1. Name:
Carrie
2. Blog Name & URL:
Live, Learn, and Love Together
3. Twitter Username: n/a
4. Facebook URL:
http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Live-Learn-and-Love-Together/107887879249716?ref=ts
5. 3 words that describe you?
outgoing, dedicated, upbeat
6. When did you first start blogging?
I started my blog last August ... the first week of school!! I was
hoping to chronicle our school adventures for our family to see what
all we do.
7. What was your reason to start blogging?
I had kept an adoption website for a couple of years for our family
and friends to follow our journey to our daughter. I never saw
myself as a writer (and still don't), but I enjoyed sharing the
process and pictures with everyone. When I decided to let the domain
name expire on our adoption site, I thought maybe I'd give blogging a
try. Perhaps our moms would want to see what all we do for school!
8. What is your “niche” for your blog?
Well, I'm not so sure I have a "niche!" I share mostly about
homeschooling ... but in a personal way. It's still a family blog, so
be prepared to see pics of my kids learning! I also share about our
adoption, our oldest son's premature birth and passing, learning to
take pictures with my dslr, and walking this path called life with my
Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ - Oh, and I also gush about my husband
every couple of months or so! He overwhelms me with his awesomeness!
Really, most anything family related is fair game! I've even blogged
about some of the food changes we've made due to allergies and
sensitivities!
9. Do you have a phrase or catchy saying for your blog?
No, not really! I try to "keep it real," but sometimes that's hard
... especially when you're naturally an optimistic person.
10.When do you find time to blog?
Honestly, there were many-a-nights last year when I found myself
staying up so late that I was a grump the next day! You know what? -
that's when it's not really worth it!
Now that the newness of blogging has worn off some, I try to contain
my blogging during our afternoon quiet time. I'm a little more
organized this year, too! I made a Week-in-Review template for my
weekly homeschool reports. I also try to sort, edit, and upload my
school photos the day they are taken. As I have a few minutes of free
time here and there, I'll write a couple of sentences about what we
did for school. When the end of the week comes, I already have most
of my post done. Then, I just fill in the rest of the details. ;)
11.Tell us about your family?
Hubs and I met in high school and began dating the second semester of
my senior year. We married two and a half years later, and I finished
college while he worked hard for the money! Really, he had just
graduated and had a good job ... we were blessed to start our life
together under those circumstances.
I had planned on going to graduate school, but God changed my heart
and Hubs and I decided to start our family. We had no trouble getting
pregnant - it was staying pregnant that would be our problem.
Twenty-four weeks later, our oldest son, Noah, entered this world
weighing only one pound, four ounces. He lived for two and a half
days and then went from the loving arms of his mother to the loving
arms of the only One Who knows and loves him more than me.
We were blessed to bring two other sons into this world through many
prayers, surgical procedures, and hospital stays. God blessed us so
much more than we deserve and can comprehend. In addition, while
pregnant with Noah, before we knew of my incompetent cervix, God
planted a seed, and a desire to adopt a daughter from China began to
grow. Eight years later, in the fall of 2008, Hubs and I traveled
around the world to bring our daughter home and complete our family.
We know we are beyond blessed with each of our children.
12.What are your hobbies?
I love scrapbooking (almost always digital these days) and learning to
use my camera! I still have so much to learn and am so thankful for
all the bloggers out there who share tutorials on their blogs!! I've
also recently taken up running! I'm currently training for a 10K ...
the Turkey Trot!!
13.What piece of advice can you give to other bloggers out there?
Hmmm ... I'm not so sure I can give any advice. I certainly haven't
arrived by any means!!
One thing that I have started doing, though, is not "following" every
cute blog I stumble across! I know there's a lot of "I'll follow you,
if you'll follow me" going on in blogland. I follow blogs that I will
really read on a somewhat regular basis. Sometimes, I'll follow
anonymously for a while to see if I really connect with the author and
what she has to say. If I see that I'm really reading the posts and
taking something away that's worth my time, I'll stick around!
As a social, stay-at-home mom, I love connecting with bloggy friends!
I really enjoy getting to know other bloggers and getting to know my
readers! Please drop me a line and let me know if you stop by!! I
try and reply to most of my comments ... especially when the commenter
is asking a question.
14.What are some fun facts about you that you’d never share unless
asked?
Well, Meghan, since you asked, ...
I really do enjoy the planning part of homeschooling - really, I do!!
I bought 26 pair of squeaky shoes for my daughter when we were in
China! They were only $3 or so a pair, and we were stocked up for a
while ... every size and color! I also had to buy a suitcase to get
them home! ;)
I've noticed that when I get the hiccups, I usually get them again two
more times that same day. Weird, huh?!
I had jaw surgery in high school, and my mouth was wired shut for six
weeks. It really didn't slow me down a bit ... I'm a talker!! I
received an "N" in conduct in fifth grade to prove it! ;)
Once we were discharged from the ER with one of our children with a
diagnosis of "Parental Concern." Seriously ... that was what was
written on the discharge papers!
Finally, I've been to Paris, Rome, and Beijing, but I still haven't
made it to my own capital! A trip to Washington, D. C. is definitely
something Hubs and I want to do when the kids are a little older!
15.What are your top 3 favorite blogs that you follow?
I have followed Ni Hao Y'all
I feel like she shares her family so well through her writing and
pictures!
I also *love* Heather from Goggles and Grace
and for homeschooling shines through her blog! She is a sister in the
Lord who I will make every effort to meet in real life when we finally
take our Washington, D.C. vacation!! She is such an encouraging
breath of fresh air when she visits my blog, too! Heather was my
first bloggy friend, and I am so thankful that the Lord led me to her
and her blog on a Wordless Wednesday thread so many months ago!
Another bloggette that I follow religiously and look forward to
meeting one day (and I pray it's before we die!!!) is Hannah from
Me-Me and Monkey's Big Adventures
are adorable ... and she has this way of capturing their personalities
with her camera that is like nothing I have ever seen. I can't
remember the last time I visited her blog and didn't laugh!! She is
so real, and she portrays her life just like it is ... the good days,
the not so good days, and the FUNNY days!! ;)
16.Where do you see your blog in 1 year/5 years?
Well, I *am* a planner, but really, ... for now, my blog is a fun,
creative outlet. I've been so blessed by the generosity of other
bloggers who share so freely, and I just want to give back. Along the
way, I hope I've shared my love for my family, homeschooling, and
adoption. It's so rewarding to get emails from people who are
