postheadericon Review: Celebrating The Season - An Advent Study

I LOVE December for many reasons. There is something in the air, literally that just makes it one of my favorite months. All the shopping, festive lights, trees, carols, baking cookies for Santa, it’s all just so much fun!

That said, sometimes it’s easy to overlook the real meaning of the “season”. It is important to our family to remember why we celebrate this holiday and to teach our children just that. It’s not about how many Christmas parties we can go to, or how many gifts we receive, it’s about the greatest gift of all, Jesus!

My friend Maggie Bokros has written an e-Book called “Celebrating The Season: An Advent Study”. I am amazed by the amount of content and ideas this e-Book has in it. You can tell she’s put a lot of hard work, prayer, and thought into creating this and it definitely shows!

Some have no idea what Advent is. What is Advent? As Maggie puts it: “Advent means “coming” or “arrival”. The purpose of the season is to celebrate the birth of Jesus and the anticipation of his return. For individuals this season can be a symbol of their own personal spiritual journey in acknowledging that Jesus Christ did come, He’s present in the world today, and He will come again. The season of Advent is a season of preparation, marked by prayer, as we await the redeeming light of our Savior.”

She refers to a Jesse Tree in this e-Book and again, many aren’t aware of what that is. Again, Maggie easily explains that a Jesse Tree is named from Isaiah 11:1: "A shoot will spring forth from the stump of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots." It is a vehicle to tell the Story of God in the Old Testament, and to connect the Advent Season with the faithfulness of God across 4,000 years of history. The Branch is a biblical sign of newness out of discouragement, which became a way to talk about the expected Messiah (for example, Jeremiah 23:5). It is therefore an appropriate symbol of Jesus the Christ, who is the revelation of the grace and faithfulness of God.

The e-Book is broken down into age groups. So, if you have young children or older children, it has something for everyone – even parents! I don’t’ want to give away what is included in this e-Book but it’s everything you could possibly need to help guide your family through the REAL meaning of this season.

We will be going through this study together as a family beginning on December 1st. There will be a few days that we are away from our children in December so we’ll either get a head of the days or catch up once we return, but we will have our last lesson be on the 25th no matter what.

You can purchase this e-Book on Maggie’s site by clicking here. Stop by again and check out our updates from “Celebrating The Season” and how we’re teaching our children (and we as parents are learning too!) about the true meaning of Christmas.

postheadericon The Home Engineer: Review - Twin Sisters Productions

Another great company with awesome products! I've been so blessed to review and try many different products over the past 18 months and it seems they keep getting better!

Twin Sisters Productions  is a company that has durable, education, and fun activities, resources, and more!

For over 23 years, Twin Sisters Productions has been dedicated to producing quality educational and inspirational music resources for children, families, and educators. Founded by fraternal twins, Karen Mitzo Hilderbrand , and Kim Mitzo Thompson, Twin Sisters Productions has continued to expand its product line to include CDs, read and sing-along books, floor puzzles and educational workbooks, all with the purpose of learning through music. These products have received over 160 awards for educational excellence and creativity as well as classroom and family fun, thus reflecting Twin Sisters Productions’ commitment to producing educational audio of the highest quality and value. These awards include RIAA (Record Industry Association of America) certified Gold albums and one Platinum album. With thousands of songs that teach and over 26 million albums sold, Twin Sisters Productions positions itself as the leader in children’s educational music.

We were blessed with reviewing the United States Floor Puzzle and Music CD.

My 4 year old has been hours playing with this puzzle. He loves puzzles but has been getting bored with the ones we have here at home, so this coming to our front doorstep was such a great blessing as well as perfect timing.

We popped in the CD and got started working on the puzzle. Here is a video of him saying the pledge right before we began the puzzle.

He is now well on his way to learning all the 50 states (yes, he's 4.5 and learning them) and working on where each state is located. We have a big spot in our living room that is perfect for floor puzzles, so he's spent much time here with his United States Floor Puzzle.

The quality of this puzzle is outstanding. You know how some puzzles start to wrinkle up or show signs of wear? This is sturdy and perfect for all toddlers/preschoolers to handle. Very durable!

I was expecting this puzzle to take a while (say 45 minutes or more) but he got right on it and with very little help, he was on his way to completion!

Just a few minutes later, we had the puzzle completed and were singing along STILL with the music CD that came with it. Here is the happy puzzle champion!

Im very excited to go back and purchase the other things I have on my list from Twin Sisters Productions. To read more about this company, click here. Twin Sisters always has a Special running, so check out their current sales and specials here.

postheadericon The Home Engineer and Review: Tommee Tippee

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Tommee Tippee products! Their stuff is just so chic and easy to use. So, when I decided to do a review for them, I was stoked. I have always wanted to try their products and finally got a chance to break down and do it. Which Tommee Tippee product is your favorite?

The newborn bottle feeding system, sippy cups, table wear or maybe you are interested in the pacifiers? Tommee Tippee has something for all parents. I got a chance to review the Explora Easy Roll Bibs and WOAH was I impressed.

Don't you hate how hard most bibs are to put on a baby or clean? I.cannot.stand.it. Period. I avoided bibs when my 2nd child was younger b/c it was such a hassle to get on, keep on him, and then clean it up. Might as well just take his shirt off and wipe him down once he was finished eating because that seemed to work better than the ordeal of using bibs. Well, I wish I had this when he was younger because they would've worked perfectly for us! Now that he's 19 months, we'll still use them, but I wish I had discovered these sooner.

The material makes it for easy putting on the baby as well as easy clean up. Thats something all mothers are looking for, ALWAYS! Give it a good 5 minutes and the bib is completely dry. What I like about these is that they are easy to roll and throw in a diaper bag or purse. Definitely use this bib while you're on the go!

Normally my son doesn't like bibs. He doesn't like the way they rub his neck and his neck ends up having a small rash after having one on. However, when we use our Tommee Tippee bib, there is no rash to be found! (enter "Hallelujah Chorus" here). By the looks of this picture, you can tell he's a sucker for Tommee Tippee already.

I can't say enough good things about Tommee Tippee products. I'm anxious to use the feeding system on my newborn once we have another baby. There are products for all ages. Not just newborns or toddlers. I would most definitely review another product if they invited me to. What Tommee Tippee products do you have?

postheadericon Review: Charlie & Trike In The Grand Canyon Adventure

What an awesome product to review! We have had so much fun learning about the Grand Canyon.

Charlie and Trike's Grand Canyon Adventure

Charlie & Trike are two fun pals! Written by Ken Ham with Karen Hansel, the two little friends take you on quite the adventure through the Grand Canyon. Who knew even preschoolers could learn and understand what the Grand Canyon is, where it is, and the fun facts behind it. My 4 year old had quite the time reading about Charlie & Trike.

A little more about the book:

"In this first presentation of the Green Notebook Series, Charlie and his triceratops buddy, Trike, set off with a burly one-eyed tour guide and a passel of mules to hike deep into Grand Canyon. But there's trouble on the trail when Charlie goes off on his own to dig for fossils. What's more, Charlie's convinced the tour guide is a thief, but any plans to catch him are quickly foiled. Once in the Canyon, Trike does his best to explain to his friend the worldwide Flood and why we can trust the Bible. Finally, with the help of the tour guide, Charlie sees and understands the truth in a way that will change his life forever."

This package included the actual Charlie & Trike in the Grand Canyon Adventure book and a "Your Guide To The Grand Canyon" spiral bound book. The books are great resources when learning about the Grand Canyon.

One of my favorite things in the Charlie & Trike book were the fun facts (with pull out pages) about the Grand Canyon as well as the biblical stories behind the flood and who Noah is. This definitely kept my preschoolers attention. We read the book several days in a row before nap-time and it has become a staple to read here in our house. New Leaf Publishing has become a favorite here and I'm excited to order more Homeschool curriculum and books from them! I highly recommend their resources.

In honor of Charlie & Trike, I'm hosting a Twitter party just for these two little guys :) This is an event you won't want to miss. It will be August 31st at 8pm CST. All you have to do is log in and be there to chat at that time. Don't forget to use the hashtag #C&Trike during the chat. There will be amazing prizes handed out at this party so you want to make sure you're there! Click here for more details on the party.

postheadericon Review: Costume Super Center

I was so excited when Costume Super Center contacted me about doing a giveaway. My son (4.5 years old) LOVES to dress up so this was a great opportunity for more dress up stuff.

Costume Super Center has awesome costumes for Halloween. And with that time of year coming up, who isn't ready to start looking? On their website you'll find a huge assortment of boys Halloween costumes as well as girls.

The moment I pulled up the website at Costume Super Center, I knew what I wanted to review! My son is a big Toy Story fan, especially the newest one that came out, Toy Story 3, so I was excited to see they had the Woody costume . So, thats what we chose.

I got the costume extremely fast. I think less than a week of placing the order. Costume Super Center has amazing shipping and turn around times. Once it arrived, we dove into the box and opened up the costume. I loved how neat and well put together the costume is. From the way it's sewn to how they packaged it in the box. All VERY professional and well done. Not to mention the customer service was fantastic.

My 4 year old couldn't wait to put on the costume and transform into Woody. The tears you see in the picture are where he was told he can only wear it for a few minutes before we have to run some errands. He was sad to have to take it off so soon. He LOVES it!

The costume consisted of a hat, an outfit that included the gun holster, a bandana, and boots to cover the feet. The boots are great to cover the feet if just playing around the house. But if you use this for a Halloween costume or your child wants to wear it out, the boots will cover up the shoe that the child has on. AMAZING!

I definitely will be ordering from Costume Super Center again. I had an amazing experience and will share the link with friends/family to order from for Halloween or anytime they are looking for dress up costumes. Let me know if you have any questions about them. I'd love to help ya out. If at anytime Costume Super Center asks me again to place a review for them, I'd be more than happy to do so. This is a great company to buy from!

postheadericon Review: Happy Brown House & Some News!

Oh my goodness, today's post is going to be so exciting! So, hold on to your seats...here we go.

I was so excited to review something from Stitches By Sara. She has TONS of adorable items in her Etsy Shop, so it was definitely hard to decide what to review.  I finally chose the Market Tote With Monogram.  Oh my, the cuteness in this tote is over the top. I've always wanted a tote like this and finding this was so great. I chose the black tote with white monogram. And just take a peek at the cuteness of how it turned out.

And my oh my is it ever spacious! Thats a good thing because I tend to carry around alot. I think I'll use this for quick trips to the store, farmers markets, consignment sales, and garage sale-ing. It would also be a good thing to carry to church with my bible, notebook, and wallet. I can think of TONS of ways I'll be using it.

My favorite part? Besides it being so stinkin' cute, is how easily it folds down and how compact it is. Definitely not bulky in any way.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
More exciting news. My blog will have new team members coming on board. Why? I want to help promote other bloggers that I love and believe in as well as bring more diversity to my blog. I love having others post here so I figured making a team would do all of that.
So, who are these new team members?
Joy from My Home In The Smokies will be post on the 1st and 3rd Friday's of each month. Her topic is: Inspirations From The Smokies
A little bit about Joy:
I have been married to my wonderful husband for almost 18 years.  We have 4 awesome kids we have been homeschooling for 7 years.  I am the leader of a local homeschool support group.  In my spare time, I love to read, scrapbook, make crafts/cards/stampin and play on the computer. I enjoy baking and cooking for family and friends and sharing the recipes of my dad and grandma. I love the Lord and loving the life that HE has given me.
Cherie from Heart & Soul Reflections will be posting on the 2nd and 4th Friday's of each month. Her topic is: Faith Filled Families
A little bit about Cherie:
Cherie is enjoying her life to the fullest with her husband and three beautiful girls. She has been a Chief Home Officer for the last 13 years.  Cherie loves dabbling in graphic design, scrapbooking, stamping, photography, gardening, and reading.  You’ll find her blogging at http://www.heartandsoulreflections.com, where she daily writes to honor her King Jesus.  You can find her on Twitter as  @MySoulReflects.
Marci from Overcoming Busy will be posting on the 5th Friday's. Her topic is: Overcoming Chaos.
A little bit about Marci: Marci Goodwin is wife to an amazing husband and mother to two phenomenal kids.  She is on a quest to get the "busy" out of her life so she can spend time on what's really important. She doesn't claim to have it all figured out, but the journey is interesting. Her motto is "Life is just too short to spend it on stuff that just doesn't matter!"
So, stop back by on Friday's and hear what these awesome gals have to say.
This week, I'm praticipating in: New Friend Friday & Friday Frails.
