The Home Engineer: Family Rules
The word “rules” has a negative feeling that comes with it. But why? Why can’t “rules” be a positive word? I'm talking about family rules, things you want your family to live by, not "Make your bed everyday", or "Clean the bathroom twice a week."
We use this word in a positive tone in our home and our children already know (at the ages of 4 and 17 months) that “rules” are important things that make our family run smoothly.
Here are our Family Rules. This pretty much sums up everything we want to live by and teach our children.
- Always tell the truth
- Never leave angry
- Forgiveness in mandatory
- Pray without stopping
- Jesus First. Others Second. Yourself Last.
- Husband: Love her Wife: Respect him
- Everything is a gift from God. Take care of your things
- Keep your promises
- Too much TV is bad. Too much reading is good
- Keep your promises
- Be silly. Hug often. Smile Alot. Say I love you.
- Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.
So yeah, that pretty much sums up everything. We keep this posted above our living room entry table and its something we always see and can remember it's importance.
What are your family rules?

Popping in from iFellowship. Those are awesome house rules! I might have to copy a few.
I love your house rules. I started mine last year and haven't finished. Maybe "finish what you start" should be on there, lol. Our family rules will be centered around God, love, respect and laughter.
I l-o-v-e rules. Not that I am Betty Rule Follower and never break any. But Rules are what keep us in line and give us boundaries. I'd say, I'm a combo of Sandy in the poodle skirt and Sandy in the all black hotness. Rules...with flexibility.
And dig your house rules. They are more life lessons to live by. Love it. I don't know if we have any off the top of my head. But I will think about that!!
I love your posted rules wall hanging. Did you make that yourself? Great idea.
Love your family rules! :D How did you make that? Is it scrapbook paper or?
Have a blessed Wednesday!
Sherry
love that you framed it!!
Layton Family Rules
1. Honor dad and mom - exodus 20:12
2. Do not lie - exodus 20:16
3. love your neighbor - matthew 22:39
4. live in peace - matthew 9:50
5. encourage everyone - hebrews 10:25
6. serve on another - galatians 5:13
7. do w/o complaining - philippians 2:14
Thanks everyone! Sherry - it's digital scrapbooking (my friend did it, but I digital scrapbook too).
Stef - LOVE your rules! We have #7 of your list on Jackson's sticker chart that I made.
These are beautiful! We so often think of rules as things Not to do and this is such a great reminder of the beautiful things that we Need to do. I do love how it is framed - that's such a visual treat and I think it only helps to reinforce the beauty of those words and actions.
Thanks for sharing!

I so love this and must get busy making something for our family! Great to be visible to all in the home as daily reminders!
I love your rules. I have been working on some for our family. I have thought about it for a long time, but have never established them. Hope you don't mind if I use yours as a starting point. Thank you for this post!
Love the positive tone of your rules. We are re-working our house rules with verses to memorize. Kind of our summer project.
