postheadericon Review: Attaining Creativity

Attaining Creativity by Pia Walker is stunning. I'm speechless at her work.

About the Artist:

The mask covered her nose and mouth. Slowly, her eyelids blinked less and less until finally, my mother slept. About forty-five minutes later, I was born.

Okay, so I just had to help a student write up their autobiography, and in trying to explain how the lead-in (or hook) sentence worked, I came up with several examples. One of them was the first sentence you read above.
I am a self-taught artist, by way of crayons, chalk, acrylics, and watercolors. I also love texture and work with fabrics, leaves, wire, and anything I find around the house (or yard, or on the street). My art work for the last two years has been done with pastel pencils, on textured paper. I have planned art series that include abstract acrylic backgrounds and pastel foregrounds. I am a small artist, and by that I mean that my work has primarily been on small 12×12″ pieces of paper. As of yet, I am still unsure as to how to fill a 16×24″ piece of canvas, but I’m experimenting with that too.
The themes of my work focus on children and self-discovery. Perhaps the two are tied together because as children, we are always looking to learn, a skill that we sometimes forget or drop from our repertoire once we trespass into adulthood. As my art work continues, I see my skills adapting and changing, and the timid lines that I made when I began drawing full-time are giving way to broader strokes, where I care less about the perfection of the piece and more about the sentiment.
Enjoy!

Pia approached me a few weeks ago about reviewing her products and hosting a giveaway. We have scheduled the giveaway for June 22nd where she will be giving away some of her artwork and cards. You will be blown away by the detail and creativity she has.

I love the colors she uses. It's amazing to me - someone with zero art skills is wishing I had the art skills that Pia has. Each portrait I see of hers, I want to learn more about.

Her art work would go great in homes, schools, classrooms, offices, or even churches.

Look at some of the examples below and tell me you wouldn't want to see these displayed in your home or church or pediatrics office.

Now onto the goodies :) Pia was so generous in sending products to me to try out. Here is the goody envelope I received in the mail just the other day.

I've already used the Correspondence Cards that are pictured in the photo above. I knew exactly who I was going to write to and have been looking for the perfect "card" or stationary to send to them. Within a day of my friend(s) receiving them, I got a call from each saying how beautiful the card was and that they wont be throwing it in the trash like they do with other notes. I plan on sending the "expecting" card  to my friend who is pregnant with her first as well as framing a few of the cards above. There is a place in my house begging for one of these to be hung.

You can purchase or browse through Pia's store here , read her blog here  or check out her website here.

FOllowing from FF - please follow back. Love the pastels. I appreciate anyone who works in them as I find them very difficult to work with. Her work is soft and beautiful!
