This week we are learning about Creation. To give this "unit" a snappy name, we're going to title this series of posts, "Creation Station".

I am so excited to expand my 4 year old's thinking about creation. There are lots of ways you could teach about creation, but I wanted to keep it simple.

First, we read this easy to read bible story about creation. I love how easy to read it is and how well my 4 year old comprehended it.

Next, we talked about what God created on Day One. I made posterboard cut outs of numbers for each day of creation. I created and decorated them with what was created on that day to help my "student" understand this concept better.



We then used some of our Alpha Omega Curriculum to talk about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Granted, he doesn't understand the Holy Spirit concept, he now knows that these three make up one...God. We linked that with our family. Our family has one name and we are one big family, but we have different parts of our family. We named out each family member in our immediate family and stated that even though there are four parts, we all are the same family. Just like God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit make up three parts, there is only ONE GOD. I wanted to introduce this concept (even though I knew it wouldnt make sense yet) because later on in the school year, we're going to come back to this. A good way to illustrate this is with an egg. Place the egg in a bowl. Help the student crack the egg. Explain how there are 3 parts to an egg; the shell, egg yolk, and egg white. These three parts make up ONE egg.



Another tool I'm using to help talk about creation is a mini book that I found here. We colored and talked about Day One. All throughout this week, we'll use this book to work our way through the rest of the days of creation. Then he can keep it as a tool to help him remember the days of creation.

We worked through our Horizons workbook and color, cut, and pasted all the things God created for us. He chose where each went on the page and it turned out great! He also colored a picture of "heaven" that was also in our Horizons workbook.
