postheadericon Review: Alpha Omega Horizons Pre-K Curriculum (Into Our Spring Semester)

I cannot believe we're already into the Spring semester with PreK. Wow, it goes by way too fast. We are enjoying every minute of it and my little preschooler is learning oh so much!

What do I love about Alpha Omega?

  • That it comes already layed out for the teacher/parent. No need to plan your own lessons and go through the stress that brings. It's already set out for you day by day.
  • The workbook(s) that come with the Horizons package. You can see more details about Horizons here.
  • Everything you need to know to teach your preschooler is included in this curriculum. From bible stories, memory verses, to handwriting, telling time, and math. It's all there!
  • They put the curriculum into preschool terms. Meaning, it's very easy for my preschooler to comprehend and learn from. I've noticed by reviewing other homeschool curriculum and hearing stories about how the preschoolers/student is left feeling frustrated because they aren't making any progress. My son can really see and track his progress that he's made so far this year! It's a great feeling to him as well as to mom. :)
So, what have we worked on this week?

*Telling Time - he is getting so good at looking at a clock and telling us what time it is. We are still on the "o'clock" stage, but he can look at a clock and see that it's 3:00. He also has gotten good at drawing the hands on the clock. Alpha Omega provides wonderful handouts, worksheets, and ideas to help with teaching your student to tell time.

*Handwriting - he has really gotten the hang of this handwriting business. Granted, it definitely has room for improvement, but for a preschooler, I'm shocked at how well he can stay in between the lines, finish the letters in a word, and write even complete sentences when prompted. Again, two thumbs up to Alpha Omega's Horizons!

*Addition & Math Problems: He loves addition and subtraction! We have quite the mathematician on our hands I think. :) We use the dry erase board to help him learn math. It has become quite the hit and he looks forward to writing with the marker - which in return, looks forward to doing math.

Here is an example of the handouts that the Alpha Omega Horizons package includes. It comes in a bound book with tearable pages. I tear the pages out each lesson and hole punch them. Then they go in his "Pre-K binder" where I keep all of his work from the year.

In case you can't tell, I'm a huge fan of homeschool and love all it's bringing to our family! Thank you Alpha Omega for making it even more of a hit in our house!

-We also have been learning this week about Creation Day 5 and the fish that God made on Day 5. Alpha Omega provided lots of activities which included ocean, fish, and sea creatures. How is my preschooler learning to read? We're making our way through "Teach Your Child To Read In 100 Easy Lessons" and he's loving it! This past week he made his way through an entire book for the first time. Such a great feeling to both him and me!

-Make sure to check out Hip Homeschool Mom's new site. A great resource site for all homeschoolers as well as the home of The List (a "hip" way to buy and sell your homeschool curriculum).

Until next time...
